| Max was only with us 6 short months, but that was three more months then the vet gave us. Max came to Safe Haven with a badly mangled leg and way underweight. Originally, it was thought his leg had been broken and didn't heal correctly, but when they went to remove the leg, bone cancer was discovered. When a dog has bone cancer, it almost always metastisizes into lung cancer. Max was not given a prognosis for a long life. It can be hard to find a home for a dog that does not have long to live. No one wants to become attached, only to lose them. But Phil and Annie felt that Max deserved a loving home for what time he did have. When Max first arrived at Phil and Annie's in January, he was a skinny, pathetic rotweiller. His coat was dull and so were his eyes. |

The first night home, Max actually bit Annie over food. It seems he hadn't been fed alot in his previous life. But in a short time, with  some love, Max was feeling happier and learning to share. His coat took on a sheen, and he didn't even seem to miss that hind leg. Everyone who met Max came to love him. He demanded your attention and love. He'd run across the lot on his three legs ready to greet everyone with a smile and a kiss. If he didn't get enough attention, he'd sit on your feet. In July, Max developed a cough. Thankfully, it moved very swiftly and Phil took him to the vet one final time. To Max, whose life started out so badly but ended with such love. |
